FAYETTE COUNTY S.T.E.M. BUS

LOCATION: LEXINGTON, KY

STATUS: Completed in 2017

OVERVIEW: In 2017, FCPS had a crazy idea to turn an old school bus into a mobile classroom. While they were not the first to think if it, their approach was innovative and unique. The FCPS STEM Bus, designed and fabricated by NOMI Design, a group of educational architects and fabrication specialists, is a mobile, trans-formative space which also functions as a learning tool.

Using NOMI’s initial concept renderings, FCPS rapidly garnered support from the local community. A generous local corporation known as the Kloiber Foundation stepped forward to fully fund the project allowing the STEM Bus to begin its magical transformation from idea to reality.

As a company committed to creating inspiring learning environments, this project was a dream come true for NOMI. While some elements were related to our experience as educational architects, the renovation of a moving vehicle was very different from anything we’d done before. With collaboration and help from talented, local sub-contractors and vendors, we were able to deliver this very special project to our community.

We believe this project can change lives of children in Lexington. It will affect how they learn and will fuel their desire to pursue new ways of learning. The meaningfulness of this project has made the FCPS STEM Bus one of our most valued works.
