These learning tools have transformed modern classrooms into environments very different from the one-room schoolhouses of the 19th Century and even from late 20th Century classrooms. Today’s, classrooms are outfitted with laptop computers, smart boards and tablets. Modern teaching styles engage students in hands-on learning activities that demonstrate curriculum content in practical ways. As a result, students can connect abstract theories and concepts with tangible, real-life examples. The FCPS bus is a next-generation learning environment that immerses students in STEM curriculum through participation, observation, engagement, and creativity.

Flexibility is a crucial requirement of the Twenty-first century mobile classroom. Just as the designers of historic one-room schoolhouses could have never imagined the exponential advances in technology and teaching that occurred during the 20th Century, we cannot fully anticipate the future needs of our current learning environments.
