TRINITY HILL METHODIST CHURCH

Type: Fabrication

Location: Lexington, KY

Status: Completed 2022

When Trinity Hill Methodist church contacted Nomi to assist in the renovation of their sanctuary, we were thrilled to discover the natural beauty and architectural significance that the existing space contained.  Built in 1966, the church’s sanctuary has a magnificent octagonal form, that is spaciously lifted by a clerestory row of beautiful stained-glass windows. The windows allow light to flood into space while highlighting the expansive wood ceiling.

We were asked for a refresh of interior materials, a redesign of the existing stage area, and to design a series of new fabricated furniture pieces to visually and spiritually connect the spaces.  What resulted, was an incredible journey of placemaking with unique and powerful elements of faith.

The enlarged stage design allows for a more consistent calling of productions, choir events, and in-service activities for both the online and in-person audiences.  The newly fabricated prayer rails in front of the stage engage members of the congregation for a more penitent point of the view during the act of prayer in the front of the sanctuary.  Their simplicity and elegance directs focus on the people and their actions, rather than on the objects themselves.

We know that focusing on the details from the beginning makes the best possible finished product.
