The goal of our client was to renovate small portions of their existing mid-century high school with a minimal addition that achieves community identity, security, and a future ready Learning Commons space that provides the framework students need for collaborative learning. The first phase of the renovation was to remove a structurally unsafe classroom wing and create a new secure entry sequence.

Second, they needed to move and integrate a media center int eh school from an isolated wing that was being demolished. In lieu of an addition, we chose to renovate what was originally designed as the “Women’s Gym” because of its adjacently to the cafeteria and its central location - minimizing waste and maximizing budget efficiency. The new addition accommodates a lobby/art gallery and accessories spaces for the creative and performing art studies. The lobby fronts the public street so the new addition will create a branded identity for the school.
